Phil Mickelson's caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay went on the Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday to discuss Mickelson's great win at Muirfield. Patrick always does a great job getting information out of guests and this one didn't disappoint.
You can watch above but here are a few of my favorite quotes from Bones:
On why he broke down at the end:
"It was emotional for me because I've caddied for him his entire career. To win in such a great fashion on an iconic course, it just got the best of me."
On if it was the round of his career:
"Without question. Because he did everything. There was nothing more he could do. He made every single par putt he stood over. I don't think there's any question it was far and away the best one I've seen him play."
On conquoring links golf:
"Butch Harmon had a big hand in getting Phil to where he ultimately got to."
On his role on the course:
"We talk a lot, he's a very social guy out there."
On scoreboard watching:
"If you went up to him when he was in contention in an event he could probably recite the leaderboard to you and where he stood."
On if he'll ever get fired:
"Caddies get fired. Everybody gets fired in this particular business. If Phil called me up this afternoon and said 'hey listen it's been great but I want to know another direction' I have to respect that."
On what Phil eats:
"I'll occasionally make a PB&J depending on where we are."
