The 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open will be the second-to-last PGA Tour stop of the calendar year and a talented field will descend upon Memorial Park Golf Course to hunt for FedEx Cup points before the holiday break. Three of the top 15 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are scheduled to be in the 2022 Houston Open field, highlighted by No. 2 Scottie Scheffler. The 26-year-old Texan spent 25 weeks at No. 1 this year and he's already had a win and a runner-up finish while playing in his home state in 2022.
Scheffler is coming off a T-3 finish at Mayakoba last week and he's listed as the 11-2 favorite in the 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Fellow top-15 players Sam Burns (12-1) and Tony Finau (16-1) will also be in the field and past Houston Open winner Russell Henley is at 25-1 in this week's PGA Tour odds coming off his win last week. Top 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open: Finau, a four-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites at 16-1, stumbles this week and doesn't even crack the top-five. Finau recorded two wins and seven top-10 finishes last season, but he's struggled in Houston in recent years.
In fact, Finau missed the cut at this event last year after shooting a 73 in the second round. In addition, the 33-year-old missed the cut last week at Mayakoba and ranked 108th in overall putting average (1.610), 116th in one-putt percentage (39.08%) and 135th in total putting (246.8) last season, which doesn't bode well for his chances to win this week. He's not a strong pick to win it all and there are far better values in the Cadence Bank Houston Open 2022 field.
Another surprise: Hideki Matsuyama, a 22-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. Matsuyama has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 30-year-old Japanese superstar won the 2021 Masters and has seven other PGA Tour victories under his belt. He's currently No. 19 in the OWGR and is widely considered one of the best ball strikers on tour.
Matsuyama ranked sixth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: approach (.711) in 2021-22 and he's been top 20 in that category in each of the last nine seasons. Matsuyama has previously played the Houston Open once, finishing T-2 in 2020.
