More than 10 years have passed since Wayne Rooney was an Everton player, but on Sunday the Manchester United striker wore the kit of his former club and called it 'weird.'

Playing in a testimonial match for Duncan Ferguson, Rooney came on as a second half substitute in a 2-1 defeat to Villarreal.

"It's nice to come back here and the fans gave me a great reception, which obviously I was delighted with," Rooney said, according to the Daily Mail"It was a bit different today, going into the home dressing room again. It was a bit weird at first but as I say didn't know what to expect with the reception but it was a great reception."

Rooney didn't score in the match. Here is his first goal for Everton when he was just 16, a stunner against Arsenal at the death to end the Gunners' 30-match unbeaten streak.

Manchester United, with Rooney in attack, will play its first Barclays Premier League game of the season on Saturday morning against Tottenham.
