The Triple Crown schedule was revised due to the coronavirus pandemic, which caused sporting events around the world to cancel, pause or rework their seasons for the health and safety of all involved. The Belmont Stakes is now the first jewel and will take place on June 20.

The order in the race for the Triple Crown is not the only thing changing for the Belmont Stakes, it will also be a shorter distance of 1 1/8 miles rather than the usual 1 1/2 miles.

Belmont Park in Elmont, New York will be without any fans in the stands when the horses and jockeys compete, with crowds not permitted due to health reasons surrounding the pandemic.

The other events in the Triple Crown were also moved, with the Kentucky Derby now being held on Sept. 5 rather than the originally scheduled May 2 date and the Preakness Stakes moving from May 16 to Oct. 3.
