2014 Sochi Winter Olympics medals revealed
The medals for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, will have a unique design from past games.

Organizers have revealed the medals for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
The medals feature a "patchwork quilt" design meant to represent the different regions of Russia, according to the Associated Press.
The front of the medals will include the Olympic rings, and the back will have the name of the event in English as well as the Sochi logo. Engraved on the rim will be the official name of the games in Russian, English and French.
"The medals are 0.4 inches thick and 4 inches in diameter," writes AP. "The Olympic gold medals weigh 16 ounces. A total of 6.6 pounds of gold was used to make the medals, which are gold-plated."
A record 1,300 medals will be made for the Games, according to AP, as 12 new events will be added, including snowboard and ski slopestyle, ski halfpipe, snowboard parallel special slalom, women's ski jumping, figure skating team event, luge relay and biathlon mixed relay.
