Rooney managed an assist in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Sharks.
Rooney set up the empty-net goal by Chris Kreider, which was the latter's 200th career tally. The 28-year-old Rooney has provided assists in two of the last three games. The American forward typically doesn't add much offense, but absences due to injuries and COVID-19 protocols have pushed him into a third line role. He's at nine points, 41 shots on net, 40 hits, 30 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in 35 appearances.
