Malkin (knee) is not expected back against San Jose on Sunday after telling reporters his timetable was "maybe 10 days," Josh Getzoff of PensTV reports.
Based on Malkin's self-announced timeline, he wouldn't return until the Penguins' Jan. 8 matchup with Dallas at the earliest. The Russian center has been a full practice participant of late, including taking his normal spot in the middle to the second line, so it could also be a bit of gamesmanship for Malkin. Whenever he does get back onto the ice, Malkin will no doubt slide into a top-six role and rejoin Sidney Crosby on the No. 1 power-play unit.
