Appleton's second-period tally stood as the game-winner, and he added the empty-netter in the third. Entering Monday, the 25-year-old forward had produced just one assist in 10 games. It's too soon to say the floodgates will open now that he's earned his first goal with his new team -- he's managed just 14 shots on net in 11 appearances this year, mainly in a bottom-six role.
