Coghlan was called up from AHL Springfield on Tuesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Coghlan's season with Springfield is over, so he'll now serve as defensive depth for the Hurricanes during their playoff run. He had three shots on goal, three blocked shots and a minus-2 rating in his lone NHL appearance this season.
