Barrie will link up with Calgary for training camp on a professional tryout agreement, the team announced Tuesday.

Considering Barrie has reached the 50-point threshold four times in his 13-year NHL career, including the 2022-23 campaign when he played for Edmonton and Nashville, it seems somewhat surprising no team was willing to give him a full contract before the start of the season. No doubt a disappointing 2023-24 season, in which he played in just 41 regular-season contests while generating 15 points, factored into the league-wide hesitancy to give the 33-year-old blueliner a deal. In another Tuesday signing, the Flames added Jarred Tinordi on a two-way contract, so Barrie will have plenty of competition during training camp in securing a roster spot for Opening Night.
