  • C.J. Mosley: Let go by Jets

The Jets released Mosley (neck) on Wednesday. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Mosley will be designated as a post-June 1 cut in order to spread out that cap hit that comes with his release. In doing so, the Jets clear $4 million in cap space for 2025 while taking on $8.784 million in dead money. Mosley battled neck and toe issues last season, limiting him to parts of just four games. He played in all 17 regular-season games each of the previous two seasons and was selected to the Pro Bowl and named a second-team All-Pro as recently as 2022. He turns 33 years old in June. It's unclear how much Mosley's body has left to give to football.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Injuries derail 2024 campaign

Mosley (neck) recorded 17 total tackles (13 solo) over four games in 2024. Mosley sustained a toe injury in the Jets' Week 1 loss to the 49ers that sidelined him for three of the team's next six games. He was limited in the games he did play as well, logging just 43 defensive snaps across those three contests. The veteran linebacker then suffered a neck injury during pregame warmups before the Week 8 matchup against the Patriots, which led to him being sidelined for the remainder of the season. Mosley remains under contract through the 2025 season, so he's expected to stay with the Jets. The 32-year-old has averaged 156 total tackles in his last three full NFL seasons and is projected to serve as one of the Jets' top inside linebackers next year once he's recovers from his neck injury.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Placed on IR

The Jets placed Mosley (neck) on injured reserve Saturday. Mosley had missed the Jets' last five games due to a herniated disk in his neck. Though he appeared to be making progress after turning in two full practices last week and another one Wednesday, he downgraded to no participation Thursday and Friday. With the Jets unlikely to make the postseason, Mosley will likely end the 2024 season on injured reserve, even though he's eligible to be activated Week 18. Jamien Sherwood should continue to start at middle linebacker in place of Mosley, who could find himself as a cap casualty this offseason.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Set to go on IR

Head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced Friday that Mosley will be placed on injured reserve due to a herniated disk in his neck, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Mosley had been sidelined for the Jets' last five games due to a neck injury. He appeared to be on track to play against the Dolphins on Sunday after logging a full practice Wednesday, but he was unable to see the field Thursday. With just five games left in the 2024 regular season and the Jets unlikely to make the playoffs at 3-9, Mosley's move to IR will effectively end his campaign. Jamien Sherwood will continue to start at middle linebacker in Mosley's absence.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Not playing Sunday

Mosley (neck) is inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Seahawks, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports. Mosley, who missed the four games prior to New York's Week 12 bye with the injury, was hoping to play in Week 13 after practicing in full Wednesday and Thursday, but he collided with running back Braelon Allen on a short-yardage play during a padded session Thursday and felt residual soreness, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Cimini added that Mosley wants to err on the side of caution and sit at least another week. The starting middle linebacker has 17 tackles (13 solo) in the four games he has played this season.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Viewed as game-time call

Mosley (neck) remains listed as questionable and is viewed as a game-time decision for Sunday's tilt with the Seahawks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. While Mosley was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday and Thursday, he downgraded to limited activity Friday before taking a designation into the weekend. Though it's possible that his activity was limited Friday as a matter of caution, Mosley had missed each of the Jets' last four games before the team's Week 12 bye due to the neck issue. As such, the Jets may have preferred for Mosley to be a full practice participant throughout the week before clearing him for game action, though the door isn't closed on him suiting up Sunday. The Jets may put Mosley through a pregame workout before deciding on his status closer to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Hopeful he'll play again in 2024

Mosley said Monday he's optimistic about the progress he has made in recovering from neck surgery, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mosley has missed the Jets' last four games due to a lingering neck issue, but he's still bullish on his chances of returning at some point during the home stretch of the campaign. His name will be one to look out for when the Jets release their first official practice report of the week Wednesday.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Out again

Mosley (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Colts, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mosley will miss his fourth straight game, and his next chance to play will be in Week 13 against the Seahawks following the Jets' upcoming Week 12 bye. Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood will continue to handle linebacker duties for the Jets.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Won't face Arizona

Mosley (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports. Mosley will miss his third straight game with a neck injury that required surgery this week. The veteran linebacker has been dealing with a stinger that is hindering his range of motion. Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood will continue to handle linebacker duties for the Jets.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Won't play Thursday

Mosley (neck) has been ruled out ahead of Thursday's game against the Texans. Mosley underwent an MRI on his neck Monday after sustaining the injury during pregame warmups before Sunday's game against the Patriots. He's set to see a neck and spine specialist, which could mean that he misses time beyond Thursday's game. While Mosley is sidelined, Chazz Surratt will see increased snaps with the first-team defense.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Undergoes MRI

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich told reporters Monday that Mosley (neck) underwent an MRI and is visiting with a neck and spine specialist, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mosely needing to see a neck and spine specialist following an MRI suggests that his injury could be serious. The veteran linebacker will likely be held out in Week 9, as the Jets have a short week playing Thursday night against the Texans. Expect Chazz Surratt to see increased work with the Jets' first-team defense is Mosely cannot suit up Thursday.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Officially questionable for MNF

Mosley (toe) has been deemed questionable for Monday's Week 6 clash with the Bills, but he should be able to play in the contest, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Mosley has missed New York's past three games due to the toe issue, but he was able to log a trio of limited practice sessions this week. That gives him a good chance of returning Monday night, and if he does so, he'll presumably retake his starting role at linebacker. Prior to this season, Mosley hadn't missed a game since the 2021 campaign.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Still working through injury

Mosley (toe) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mosley hasn't played since Week 2, although he was able to practice in a limited fashion last week as well. The veteran linebacker still has two more practice sessions in which to ramp up his activity level ahead of a Week 6 Monday night matchup against the Bills.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Doubtful for Sunday

Mosley (toe) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup against the Vikings, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mosley was able to log a limited week of practice after missing the Jets' last two contests due to a toe injury, but it now appears that he won't be ready for Week 5. With Mosley expected to be sidelined again Sunday, Chazz Surratt projects to see increased work with the Jets' first-team defense.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Listed as doubtful for Sunday

Mosley (toe) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Coach Robert Saleh confirmed as much earlier in the day Friday, stating it was unlikely Mosley would play versus Denver. The veteran linebacker was a non-participant in practice all week. Jamien Sherwood and Quincy Williams will be busy against a run-oriented and quick-passing Broncos offense Sunday.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Doesn't practice Wednesday

Mosley (toe) did not participate in Wednesday's practice session, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports. Mosley injured his toe in Week 2 against the Titans, and the veteran linebacker wasn't able to return for Week 3 against the Patriots on Thursday. There's optimism that Mosley will be able to play against the Broncos in Week 4, but the 2014 first-round pick will need to practice in at least some capacity this week to give himself a shot at playing. If Mosley cannot play Sunday, then Jamien Sherwood will continue to fill in as both the starting middle linebacker and defensive signal-caller.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Expected back for Week 4

Coach Robert Saleh is confident Mosley (toe) will be ready for the Jets' Week 4 game against the Broncos, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mosley was deemed questionable headed into Thursday night's Week 3 game against the Patriots but was ultimately declared inactive, as the short week was too much to overcome. The veteran linebacker now has 10 days to get ready for the team's Sep. 29 date with Denver. Jamien Sherwood filled in for Mosley versus New England, finishing with five tackles (four solo) on 98 percent of the defensive snaps.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Officially questionable for Week 3

Mosley (toe) did not practice Wednesday and is officially listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Patriots, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports. Mosley boasts enough NFL experience to reliably play without practicing, so his status will likely come down to how well his sprained right big toe holds up during pregame warmups. If the veteran linebacker were to miss any time, Jamien Sherwood would likely step in as the Jets' signal-caller on defense.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Estimated as non-participant

Mosley (toe) was listed as non-participant on Monday's practice estimation, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Mosley left Sunday's win over the Titans with a sprained right big toe, and after being estimated as a non-participant in the Jets' first Week 3 practice, he could be in jeopardy of missing Thursday's game versus New England. If Mosley isn't ready to go Thursday, Jamien Sherwood would likely take over as the Jets' defensive play caller.

  • Jets' C.J. Mosley: Still optimistic

Head coach Robert Saleh remains optimistic that Mosley (toe) will be able to play Thursday against the Patriots, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Mosley left Sunday's win over the Titans in the second quarter and was unable to return. With a short week ahead, the veteran linebacker will need to make a quick recovery, but it may be worth noting he's only missed one game in the previous three seasons.
