The Cowboys placed Smith (hand) on the practice squad injured list Saturday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Smith suffered a fractured hand during last weekend's win over the Bengals, and he'll now be forced to spend the remainder of the regular season on IR. He appeared in six games with the Cowboys this season, doing most of his damage on special teams while also logging three tackles (two solo) on defense.
