The Panthers hosted Smith for a visit Tuesday, Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reports.
The Panthers utilized Reggie Bonnafon as Mike Davis' primary backup with Christian McCaffrey (ankle) out, but now Bonnafon is on the practice squad injured list with an ankle injury of his own. Smith could serve as depth until either McCaffrey or Bonnafon are healthy, but he'd likely need to sign with the practice squad.
