Garnett is in advanced discussions with the Timberwolves in regards to a buyout of his current contract, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports.
Garnett is on the books for $8 million for the upcoming season, but relations between the two sides appear to have soured, so a buyout is now the likely course of action. Once completed, Garnett could sign with another contender, although it wouldn't be surprising if he opted to retire from the league after playing 21 seasons split between the Timberwolves and Celtics. More information should become available in the coming few days, but if all holds true, the 40-year-old Garnett won't be with the Timberwolves at the start of training camp.
