The Mavericks acquired Davis (abdomen), Max Christie and a 2029 first-round draft pick from the Lakers on Saturday in exchange for Luka Doncic (calf), Maxi Kleber (foot) and Markieff Morris, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
The Jazz are also included in the trade and will receive Jalen Hood-Schifino (hamstring) and two 2025 second-round draft picks to help facilitate the blockbuster deal centered around Doncic and Davis. It's a monumental shift for the Mavericks and Lakers, with Davis now heading to Dallas to pair up with Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson while Doncic heads to Los Angeles to team up with LeBron James. Davis has mostly served as the Lakers' starting center this season, but he had expressed a desire to see more time at power forward before sustaining an abdominal strain in Tuesday's win over the 76ers. The 31-year-old is likely at least a few more days away from being ready to play, but once healthy, Davis may settle in as the Mavericks' starting power forward in a frontcourt that also features Daniel Gafford. While he could still end up spelling Gafford frequently at center on occasions when the Mavericks want to get more shooters on the floor, Davis' fantasy outlook should get a bit of a boost with the move to Dallas, where he'll be uniting with another star in Irving who has historically handled lower usage rates than James did during his time with Davis on the Lakers.
