Hawks' John Collins: Gets qualifying offer from Hawks
The Hawks have extended a qualifying offer to Collins, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
The decision to extend the offer doesn't come as much of a surprise, as the Hawks will now have the ability to match any offer Collins receives as a restricted free agent. However, it remains to be seen how high of a price Atlanta will be willing to pay for the 23-year-old, who will likely seek a max or near-max contract on the open market. At the right price, the Hawks would likely bring Collins back, but if he ultimately signs elsewhere it could lead to larger roles for De'Andre Hunter and Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) in 2021-22. Collins closed the 2020-21 season with averages of 17.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.3 made threes per game in 63 appearances.
