Player Outlook
Chase Dollander is one of the best pitchers in the minors, but his dynasty value doesn't match his real-life value, given that he'll be pitching half his games in Coors Field. He had a 2.59 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 169 strikeouts in 118 innings across 23 starts between High-A and Double-A and showed no signs of slowing down. There is no recent prospect with this big of a gap between where they're ranked on real-life lists and dynasty lists. If you've been playing fantasy baseball for a while, you know how rare it is for a Rockies starter to be good enough to roster and start in fantasy for the majority a season. Ubaldo Jimenez from 2009-10 and German Marquez in 2018 are the two most obvious examples from the past 20 years, and in other years where a Rockies starter finished with decent surface stats, they probably weren't started much more than 50 percent of the time in fantasy. On the flip side, one could argue Dollander, the No. 9 overall pick in 2023, is the best pitcher to come through this system in two decades, so if someone were to join Jimenez and Marquez and post a truly valuable fantasy season, he's a great candidate. Look for him to make more starts in the majors than the minors in 2025.

  • Rockies' Chase Dollander: Struggling in spring starts

Dollander allowed five runs on two hits and four walks across 1.2 innings in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Athletics. Dollander had a tough beginning to his spring from a run prevention standpoint, but he did manage a 7:1 K:BB across five innings. However, that changed Saturday when he struggled significantly with his control. Dollander entered the spring as a candidate to earn a rotation spot, but it's unclear if his current form will affect his chances.

  • Rockies' Chase Dollander: Strong chance at roster spot

Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post expects Dollander to be in the Rockies' rotation to begin the regular season. There were rumblings prior to spring training about the possibility of Dollander skipping Triple-A and jumping straight to the majors to begin the 2025 season. He helped his case with a solid spring debut Monday, when he struck out three across two innings with his only run allowed coming on a solo home run. Dollander will have high expectations due to his rapid rise to the majors and pedigree, though it's worth keeping in mind the challenge he faces with Coors Field as his home park.

  • Rockies' Chase Dollander: Could skip Triple-A

Dollander could make the Rockies' Opening Day rotation if he performs well in spring training, Kyle Newman of the Denver Post reports. Dollander ended the 2024 season at Double-A Hartford and maintained an impressive 2.25 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with a 58:19 K:BB across 48 innings. He earned a non-roster invitation to spring training as a result, though his status of not currently being on the 40-man roster could cause the Rockies to look elsewhere to begin the campaign. Regardless of his status in late March, Dollander appears nearly certain to debut in 2025.
