Atlanta optioned De La Cruz to Triple-A Gwinnett. De La Cruz had an opportunity to stake claim to a regular role in the Atlanta outfield, but he managed just a .453 OPS and didn't drive in a single run in 16 games. He's being replaced on the roster by Alex Verdugo, who was called up from Triple-A.... See More ... See Less

Braves' Bryan De La Cruz: Not starting Sunday
De La Cruz is not in Atlanta's starting lineup against Tampa Bay on Sunday, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports. De La Cruz has gone 0-for-7 with one walk, one stolen base and five strikeouts over the first two games of the series. He'll retreat to the dugout for the series finale while Eli White starts in left field and bats ninth against Rays right-hander Joe Boyle.... See More ... See Less -
Braves' Bryan De La Cruz: Looks ready for Opening Day
De La Cruz is batting .297 (11-for-37) through 15 Grapefruit League appearances with a 3:6 BB:K. While the 28-year-old outfielder hasn't left the yard yet this spring, three of De La Cruz's hits have been doubles. The former Marlin is in line to handle the short side of a platoon in right field alongside Jarred Kelenic while Ronald Acuna completes his recovery from knee surgery, a role that should suit De La Cruz -- he slashed .285/.309/.425 in 188 plate appearances against left-handed pitching last year, versus a .210/.254/.365 line off righties in 433 PAs.... Braves' Bryan De La Cruz: Sets for short-side platoon role
De La Cruz is expected to platoon in right field with Jarred Kelenic until Ronald Acuna (knee) is cleared to return to the lineup, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. As the right-handed hitter of the duo, De La Cruz would be on the short side of that platoon, although manager Brian Snitker could also choose to ride the hot hand. De La Cruz slashed .285/.309/.425 in 188 regular-season plate appearances against left-handed pitching in 2024, albeit with a 25.0 percent strikeout rate against a meager 3.2 percent walk rate, so he would appear to have a reasonable chance of thriving in that role over the first month or so of the season until Acuna is back in action.... Braves' Bryan De La Cruz: Inks deal with Atlanta
Atlanta signed De La Cruz on Sunday to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract. De La Cruz began the 2024 season with Miami before being dealt to Pittsburgh at the deadline. The outfielder slashed .233/.271/.384 on the year with a career-high 21 home runs, 61 runs scored and 68 RBI. The soon-to-be 28-year-old will look to compete for a spot on Atlanta's regular-season roster.... See More ... See Less -
Bryan De La Cruz: Won't stick in Pittsburgh
The Pirates non-tendered De La Cruz on Friday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The Pirates acquired De La Cruz at the trade deadline, but he slashed just .200/.220/.394 across 168 plate appearances in Pittsburgh. With Billy Cook and Nick Yorke options to start in right field, the team will let De La Cruz hit free agency.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: Getting breather Saturday
De La Cruz isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees. After going 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in Friday's series opener, De La Cruz will sit down for the penultimate game of the regular season while Joshua Palacios takes over in right field.... Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: Pops 21st homer
De La Cruz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Brewers. De La Cruz is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Marlins. De La Cruz had started the last two games but before that had been out of the lineup five times in a 10-game span. He's sporting just a .497 OPS and 30.6 percent strikeout rate since joining the Pirates. Billy Cook will play right field and bat eighth Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: Resting during nightcap
De La Cruz isn't in the Pirates' lineup for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals. De La Cruz went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts during the first game of Saturday's slate, and he'll now step aside while Connor Joe patrols right field during the nightcap.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: Absent from lineup
De La Cruz is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals. De La Cruz is slashing a woeful .196/.217/.265 with a 30.2 percent strikeout rate in 27 games since joining the Pirates. He's seen his playing time dip lately as a result, as he's now started just half of the club's last eight contests. Connor Joe will patrol right field Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: Taking seat Friday
De La Cruz is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Cleveland. It's the second straight game on the bench for De La Cruz, who had started eight straight and 14 of 15 games prior to that. He has produced just a .570 OPS in 22 contests since joining the Pirates. Billy McKinney is getting the call in right field Friday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: Getting afternoon off
De La Cruz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports. De La Cruz looks to getting some routine maintenance as the Pirates and Cubs wrap up their series with a day game after a night game. Connor Joe will step in as the starter in right field in place of De La Cruz, who had started each of the last eight contests while going 9-for-30 with a home run, four doubles, 10 RBI and six runs.... Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: First homer with Bucs
De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double Tuesday against the Cubs. De La Cruz took Nate Pearson yard in the sixth inning to tally his first home run since joining the Pirates at the trade deadline. Despite that lack of power, De La Cruz has hit well in 14 games since Aug. 12, maintaining a .308 average with 11 RBI and eight runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: Plates three runs in victory
De La Cruz went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in Thursday's 7-0 win against the Reds. De La Cruz broke the game open in the fifth inning with a three-run double to give Pittsburgh a 5-0 lead. That was more than enough breathing room for Paul Skenes and a pair of relievers to guide Pittsburgh to a shutout victory. For De La Cruz, the pair of two-baggers snapped a 16-game stretch without an extra-base hit. During that span, he batted a meager .203 with 23 strikeouts over 64 at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Bryan De La Cruz: Not in Wednesday's lineup
De La Cruz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. De La Cruz started the past five games after being acquired from the Marlins, but he'll take a seat Wednesday after going 3-for-22 with eight strikeouts. Ji Hwan Bae will shift to right field while Michael Taylor starts in center.... See More ... See Less -

De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Friday's win over the Brewers. De La Cruz gave Miami an early lead with a two-run blast in the first inning. De La Cruz went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in Thursday's loss to the Astros. De La Cruz jumped on a hanging slider from Jake Bloss in the first inning and launched it into the stands in left field to give Miami an early lead. It marked the outfielder's 16th home run and his fourth three-hit performance of the season. He's batting .294 (10-for-34) in July with four RBI and a run scored. However, Thursday's homer was also De La Cruz's first extra-base hit this month.... See More ... See Less -
