Eury Perez was sidelined for the first couple months of the 2025 campaign while completing his rehab from Tommy John surgery, and he struggled out of the gate with a 6.19 ERA and 14:10 K:BB in his first four outings. The right-hander settled in from there with a 3.86 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in his final 16 starts, finishing the campaign with a workload of 118 innings (including his minor-league rehab starts). Perez flashed his potential as a rookie in 2023 with a 3.15 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 28.6 percent strikeout rate and 8.3 percent walk rate, and he pitched similarly well in his first year back from surgery. There are some volume concerns given that Perez has never delivered results over a full big-league season, but he should be able to push up to around 150-160 innings in 2026 given what his workload was last year. Still, Perez will turn just 23 years old in April and has as much upside as pretty much any young pitcher in MLB.

In what was likely to be his final spring outing, Perez fired 52 of 81 pitches for strikes. The 22-year-old right-hander has a 5.52 ERA over 14.2 Grapefruit League innings thanks to a few untimely long balls, but Perez's 20:7 K:BB offers a more accurate glimpse at his upside. He's expected to take the mound March 28 at home against the Rockies.

The 22-year-old right-hander tossed 19 pitches (nine strikes) in his first start of the spring before giving way to Max Meyer. Perez threw 118 innings across three levels in 2025, his first season back from Tommy John surgery, and while he scuffled early he posted a 3.86 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 91:22 K:BB in 79.1 innings from July to the end of the regular season. Perez entered Friday's contest on the heels of a quality start against the Blue Jays on Sunday. Any momentum from that outing fizzled out immediately Friday, with the 22-year-old right-hander allowing the first five batters he faced on board, which converted into five runs on homers from Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo.
