  • Reds' Brent Suter: Remaining with Cincinnati

Suter signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Reds on Friday. The deal includes a $3 million club option for 2026. Suter's previous contract included a $3.5 million club option for 2025, which the Reds bought out for $250,000 before agreeing to terms on his latest deal. The 35-year-old southpaw was an effective middle reliever for the Reds in 2024, putting up a 3.15 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 65.2 innings.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Picks up first save

Suter earned the save in Wednesday's 12-5 win over Houston, allowing one run on three hits over 3.1 innings. He struck out six. A Jon Singleton solo homer was the extent of the damage done off Suter, as the left-hander recorded the final 10 outs to earn the save in Wednesday's blowout victory. It's the first save of the year for Suter and just the second of his nine-year MLB career. Overall, Suter sports a 3.43 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB across 57.2 innings in a middle-relief role this season.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Activated from injured list

The Reds reinstated Suter (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. The veteran left-hander is ready to rejoin Cincinnati after a three-game minor-league rehab assignment, during which he allowed one run on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks over 4.2 innings. Suter has a 3.68 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB over 51.1 innings this season, and he should return to a middle-relief role now that he's healthy.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Good bullpen session

Suter (shoulder) had a good bullpen session Monday in Toronto and could begin his rehab assignment by the end of the week, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "The international pen was solid. Not unbelievable, but solid," Suter said. "Felt real good." It's been previously reported that Suter will need three appearances on his rehab assignment, which pushes a potential return date to early September.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Needs at least three rehab outings

Suter (shoulder) will need at least three rehab outings before being activated off the 15-day injured list, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Suter had a successful throwing session Friday and is expected to begin a rehab assignment this week. He's ahead of the original projected return from a partial tear of the left teres major muscle.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Throwing earlier than expected

Suter (shoulder) has begun throwing, MLB.com reports. Suter, who suffered a partial tear of his teres major muscle July 19, was expected to be shut down from throwing for up to six weeks, but he's way ahead of that schedule. It's unclear when he'll be ready for a rehab assignment.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Exits with injury

Suter was removed from Friday's game against the Nationals due to left shoulder tightness, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Suter was only able to get through two-thirds of an inning on seven pitches before exiting alongside a trainer. The 34-year-old southpaw may be unavailable for at least a game or two while the Reds determine the severity of the issue.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Serving as opener Tuesday

Suter will serve as the Reds' opening pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Suter didn't make it through the first inning in his last stint as an opener, allowing one hit while recording two outs before being lifted in a May 26 start against the Dodgers. Nick Martinez will likely be tabbed to serve as a primary pitcher behind Suter on Tuesday, considering he hasn't pitched since Friday, when he needed only 11 pitches to get through a scoreless seventh inning against the Cubs.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Opening Sunday's game

Suter will serve as the Reds' opening pitcher in Sunday's game versus the Dodgers, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Suter had some extended relief appearances earlier this season, but he pitched an inning Friday and hasn't lasted more than one frame in any of his last seven outings, so he won't work deep into Sunday's contest. The presumption, while not confirmed, is that Nick Martinez will eat most of the innings behind Suter as a bulk reliever.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Picks up injured starter

Suter allowed four hits and one walk while striking out two over 3.1 scoreless relief innings in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Angels. Suter entered the contest with two outs in the first inning after starter Frankie Montas took a comebacker off his right forearm. Suter's been useful out of the Cincinnati bullpen, having not allowed a run in eight of nine outings. In six of those appearances, he's thrown multiple innings. The left-hander owns a 2.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 15.2 innings.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Roughed up by Phils

Suter allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits and one walk over one-third of an inning in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to Philadelphia. Suter entered when the game was still in doubt -- the Reds trailed by two runs entering the seventh inning -- but he was hurt by an Elly De La Cruz throwing error and later a Bryce Harper grand slam. The lefty reliever had scoreless outings in his first three appearances before Tuesday.

  • Reds' Brent Suter: Lands with Cincy

Suter agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Reds on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The deal comes with a $3.5 million club option ($500K buyout) for 2025. Suter goes from the worst pitcher's park in baseball (Coors Field) to the second- or third-worst pitcher's park in Cincinnati. He has logged an ERA under 3.80 in five consecutive seasons and seven of his eight big-league seasons. Suter is one of the better middle relievers to pick up wins with, but he has one career save.

  • Rockies' Brent Suter: Opening season finale

Suter will start Sunday's game against the Twins, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports. The soft-tossing lefty will open Sunday's series finale instead of previously scheduled starter Chase Anderson (undisclosed). Suter has a 3.42 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 54:25 K:BB across 68.1 innings and will attempt to finish his contract year on a positive note.

  • Rockies' Brent Suter: Placed on 15-day IL

Suter (oblique) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Suter sustained an oblique injury in Tuesday's 8-6 loss to the Reds and he will now be sidelined for at least a couple weeks. Right-hander Noah Davis was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday to replace Suter on the roster.

  • Rockies' Brent Suter: Suffers oblique injury

Suter sustained an oblique injury during his relief appearance in Tuesday's 8-6 loss to the Reds, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The injury didn't seem to affect Suter from a performance standpoint, as he worked around a base hit to turn in a scoreless eighth inning. However, Suter seemingly tweaked his side at some point during the game, and he's now likely to get at least a couple of days off before the Rockies assess whether he's fit to rejoin the bullpen during the club's upcoming weekend series with the Angels. Suter can be viewed as day-to-day for the time being, though he still appears to be a candidate for the 15-day injured list.

  • Rockies' Brent Suter: Picks up second win

Suter (2-0) earned the win in Wednesday's 11-6 win over the Reds. He allowed one walk over one scoreless inning. Suter has been excellent for the Rockies this season. The veteran left-hander has allowed just one run in his last 17.1 innings (12 appearances), lowering his ERA to 0.98 with a 0.98 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB. While Suter hasn't received a save opportunity this year, he could eventually work his way into the picture if Pierce Johnson or Daniel Bard struggle.

  • Rockies' Brent Suter: Pitching well with new club

Suter has allowed two earned runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out 10 across his first 11.2 innings with the Rockies. Suter has worked primarily in a multi-inning role, as he's recorded at least four outs in six of his seven appearances. He's pitched in relatively low-leverage situations -- early in the game and without the lead -- so he won't be a source of saves and may not even be in the position to accrue many holds.

  • Rockies' Brent Suter: Avoids arbitration with new deal

Suter agreed to terms with Colorado on Friday, signing a one-year, $3 million contract to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Suter played his seventh MLB campaign for the Brewers last season, pitching in 54 games as a reliever and posting a 3.78 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 53:22 K:BB over 66.2 innings. He was claimed off waivers by the Rockies on Friday and quickly agreed to terms with the club for the 2023 campaign. Given Colorado's bullpen woes last year, Suter should begin next season in a high-leverage role, possibly as the primary setup man ahead of closer Daniel Bard.

  • Rockies' Brent Suter: Claimed by Rockies

Suter was claimed off waivers by the Rockies on Friday. Suter got off to a rough start last season, posting a 4.58 ERA ahead of the All-Star break, but a 2.87 ERA and 1.05 WHIP during the second half of the season showed that the 33-year-old lefty was still a viable option out of the 'pen. He could be an arm that Colorado relies on often in 2023 as the team looks to improve on a 2022 campaign in which they ranked last in bullpen ERA (4.85).

  • Brewers' Brent Suter: Winds up with fourth win

Suter (4-3) tossed a scoreless 11th inning and picked up the win in Tuesday's victory over the Dodgers. Suter allowed the Dodgers to take the lead in the top of the 11th, but he limited them to one run and wound up with the win when the Brewers pushed two runs across in the bottom of the frame. Suter has recorded three wins since the All-Star break, and although he allowed a run in three of his last four appearances, he owns a 1.86 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB in 9.2 innings over eight second-half appearances.
