The Yankees signed Phillips to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Phillips had played the outfield since entering the professional ranks in 2012, but he'll make the conversion to pitching as he joins the Yankees organization. The 30-year-old made his pitching debut Monday in the National Baseball Congress World Series and was throwing in the mid- to high-90s, which immediately earned him an opportunity in affiliated ball. He'll report to the Yankees' spring training complex in Florida initially.
