Ortega signed a minor-league contract with the Mets on Friday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.
Ortega was released by the Rangers earlier this month after slashing .226/.333/.381 with five home runs and eight stolen bases across 199 plate appearances. He's capable of playing all three outfield spots and will give the Mets some veteran depth at Triple-A Syracuse.
