Sleeper pitchers for Week 22 (Aug. 19-25)
Kyle Harrison has mostly underwhelmed in his rookie season, but the occasional high points offer hope he can make good on what's as favorable of a two-start slate as can be, going against the lowest-scoring team (White Sox) and the most strikeout-prone team (Mariners).

Jeffrey Springs is still working to regain velocity following Tommy John surgery, but he's seemed to recover his changeup in his past two starts, piling up a bunch of whiffs against tough Orioles and Diamondbacks lineups. Presumably, then, you can trust him against a weaker Athletics lineup in Week 22 (Aug. 19-25).

Martin Perez has leaned more on his secondary offerings since joining the Padres at the trade deadline, having put together a 1.96 ERA in three starts, and the hope here is that he keeps it going for another two. The matchups could be better, though.

Davidjohn Herz (or DJ Herz, as he's known in most places) has that sort of profile that just gets crushed when things go wrong, which is why you should be extra leery of using him in a two-start week. But the matchups this week are pretty good, particularly the first against the Rockies, and he's at least been stable of late, putting together a 3.04 ERA in his past five starts.

Jordan Montgomery has struggled to get a feel for his curveball this year, but it had a tighter break and its former effectiveness in his last start, contributing greatly to his season-high 22 swinging strikes. It's a little dangerous to presume he's "fixed," but a matchup like the Marlins makes for an acceptable floor.

Another Rays pitcher working his way back from Tommy John surgery, Shane Baz has had his ups and downs. But his last effort was a quality start against the Astros, which at least makes him a viable points-league play in a two-start week, even if one is against the Dodgers

Tobias Myers came back down to earth a little in his latest start against the Dodgers but has a much more inviting matchup against the Cardinals this week. He's performed over his head so far but has two excellent secondaries (slider and changeup) that help to explain the success somewhat.

Jameson Taillon has given up at least four runs in three of his past four starts but was due for some correction after carrying a sub-3.00 ERA into July. He's still among the best strike-throwers and has no trouble working deep into games, which makes him a worthy gamble against a lineup like the Tigers.

Cody Bradford seems to be fully built up now after missing an extended stretch with a back issue, having gone six innings in his latest start. He doesn't beat himself with walks and actually has a pretty good swinging-strike rate, giving him a chance to make good on his matchup against the Pirates.

Eduardo Rodriguez's first two starts back from a season-long battle with a shoulder strain were nothing special, but they also offered little reason to believe he couldn't handle a Marlins offense that's the second-worst in baseball. A quality start should be attainable, if only barely.
