The Head-to-Head categories format isn't a go-to for us here at CBS Sports, but it's all the rage on Yahoo. So we, being equal-opportunity analysts, decided to mock with it in mind.

There are some quirks to that format that don't normally come up when we discuss Rotisserie or Head-to-Head points leagues. Having two utility spots instead of one, for instance, changes the way you approach DH-only types, particularly in a year with so many. I took advantage by drafting two, J.D. Martinez in Round 8 and Franmil Reyes in Round 15.

The pitching staff is sort of a hybrid model that requires two starting pitchers and two relief pitchers, but then four of whichever you choose. It's precisely those flexible pitching spots that make this format one where you can afford to go a little lighter at starting pitcher, if you so choose. Even for strikeouts, a high-end reliever can measure up to a middling starter over the course of one week. It's a little different in Rotisserie, where only the full-season stats are scored.

We review our H2H Categories mock draft and the latest transactions on the Fantasy Baseball Today podcast. Follow all of our podcasts and subscribe here.

I'm generally not one for punting categories, not wanting to close off a potential path to success from the get-go, but given how scarce stolen bases are, how disconnected they are from any other stat, and how few lineup spots are available to divert to them, it's defensible to punt them in this format if they don't come easily enough -- if, for instance, you're not in a position to draft Ronald Acuna or Fernando Tatis in Round 1. After all, it doesn't matter whether you win your matchup 7-3 or 6-4 as long as you win it.

So that's how I'd sum up my approach to this format, relative to the others: go a little lighter on starting pitching, go a little heavier on relief pitching, and no getting sidetracked for stolen bases. As for how the others approached it, well, you'll have to ask them:
