Triston Casas BOS 1B
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Moves to IL
2m agoThe Red Sox placed Casas (knee) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Casas is expected to remain at extended spring training in Florida for at least the first month of the season while he works his way back from the surgery he underwent May 4 to address a ruptured left patellar tendon. Per MLB.com, Casas recently reached a key milestone in the recovery process by getting cleared to run the bases and slide, but it's unclear when he might be ready to play in simulated games or take part in a minor-league rehab assignment.
-
Jordan Leasure CHW P
White Sox's Jordan Leasure: Throws scoreless inning
3m agoLeasure went one inning allowing no runs on no hits while walking one batter in a 10-9 loss against the Athletics on Monday.
Leasure appeared in nine games this spring for the White Sox, posting a 1.00 ERA in nine innings pitched. The right-hander appeared in 68 games last season, recording a 3.92 ERA along with 81 strikeouts and seven saves for Chicago. The 27-year-old will headline the backend of the bullpen as a vital, high-leverage arm for the White Sox in 2026 next to a handful of converted starters like Grant Taylor, Jordan Hicks and Sean Newcomb.
-
Brandon Walter HOU RP
Astros' Brandon Walter: Headed to 60-day injured list
7m agoThe Astros placed Walter (elbow) on the 60-day injured list.
Putting Walter on the 60-day IL gives Houston another 40-man roster spot to play with. The lefty will miss the entire 2026 campaign after having Tommy John surgery last September.
-
Enyel De Los Santos HOU RP
Astros' Enyel De Los Santos: To injured list with knee strain
8m agoThe Astros placed Santos (knee) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Santos first injured his knee at the start of camp. He was able to return to make his spring training debut last week, but the reliever either had a setback or the Astros simply weren't convinced he was ready.
-
Ronel Blanco HOU RP
Astros' Ronel Blanco: Goes on 15-day IL
11m agoThe Astros placed Blanco (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday'
Blanco will be shelved until the second half as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace. He's a candidate to be shifted to the 60-day IL when/if the Astros need to free up a spot on their 40-man roster.
-
Ha-seong Kim ATL 2B
Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Hitting shelf to begin season
13m agoAtlanta placed Kim (finger) on its 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Kim isn't expected to be ready to make his season debut until at least some point in the first half of May after he required surgery in January to address a torn tendon in his right middle finger. The 30-year-old reported to spring training March 16 to resume taking part in baseball activities, though he has yet to be cleared to resume swinging a bat. Mauricio Dubon is expected to serve as Atlanta's everyday shortstop while Kim is on the shelf.
-
Cesar Salazar HOU C
Astros' Cesar Salazar: Designated for assignment
18m agoThe Astros designated Salazar for assignment Wednesday.
The Astros chose to roster Christian Vazquez over Salazar as their backup catcher. Teams are often on the lookout for catching depth, so it's possible Salazar draws interest on waivers.
-
Alex Jackson MIN C
Twins' Alex Jackson: Designated for assignment
32m agoJackson was designated for assignment Wednesday by the Twins, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Jackson was acquired via trade from the Orioles in November and signed to a one-year, $1.35 million contract. However, the Twins later signed Victor Caratini to serve as the backup catcher. If he's not traded, Jackson will likely pass through waivers due to his contract and could accept an assignment to Triple-A to be Minnesota's third catcher.
-
Sean Murphy ATL C
Braves' Sean Murphy: Officially heads to IL
36m agoAtlanta placed Murphy (hip) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Murphy's move to the IL was merely a formality after Mark Bowman of MLB.com reported at the onset of spring training that the veteran backstop would likely be out until sometime in May while completing his recovery from September surgery to address a right hip labral tear. Per MLB.com, Murphy was able to take on-field batting practice March 9, but it's not clear if he's taking part in defensive work or full baserunning yet. Drake Baldwin and Jonah Heim will open the season as Atlanta's two catchers.
-
Yainer Diaz HOU C
Astros' Yainer Diaz: Two RBI in final tuneup
3h agoDiaz went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI in Tuesday's exhibition matchup against Triple-A Sugar Land.
Diaz is starting to warm up just in time after struggling for much of spring training -- the 27-year-old backstop finished Grapefruit League play with a .143/.226/.214 slash line, no homers and just two extra-base hits across 11 games. Still, Diaz should offer some upside at the catcher position after batting .256 with 20 homers, 70 RBI and a .701 OPS across 143 regular-season games in 2025.
-
Adrian Del Castillo ARI C
Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Begins running
5h agoDel Castillo (calf) is continuing to rehab and has begun running, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.
Del Castillo will operate as a designated hitter in minor-league games before the organization makes its next move. It's unclear what the Diamondbacks have in mind once Del Castillo is ready to play. He could serve as a third catcher and part-time DH in the majors or head back to the minors where he can continue to develop defensively.
-
Ryan Jeffers MIN C
Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Ends spring with flourish
14h agoJeffers went 3-for-3 with two RBI in the Grapefruit League finale win against Boston on Tuesday. He hit .239 (11-for-46) with a home run this spring. He's set to get the bulk of starts behind the plate plus occasional starts at DH, MLB.com reports.
Jeffers split playing time with Christian Vazquez last season as the Twins emphasized keeping their catchers fresh. However, Jeffers is expected to get the majority of starts this season under new manager Derek Shelton with Victor Caratini serving as his backup.
-
Triston Casas BOS 1B
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Moves to IL
2m agoThe Red Sox placed Casas (knee) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Casas is expected to remain at extended spring training in Florida for at least the first month of the season while he works his way back from the surgery he underwent May 4 to address a ruptured left patellar tendon. Per MLB.com, Casas recently reached a key milestone in the recovery process by getting cleared to run the bases and slide, but it's unclear when he might be ready to play in simulated games or take part in a minor-league rehab assignment.
-
Matt Olson ATL 1B
Braves' Matt Olson: Belts two homers Monday
1d agoOlson went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates.
The slugging first baseman took Carson Fulmer deep in the first inning before clobbering a Mike Clevinger fastball in the sixth. Olson appears more than ready for Opening Day, slashing .333/.373/.750 in 16 spring games with six homers.
-
Triston Casas BOS 1B
Red Sox's Triston Casas: Staying in Florida
1d agoCasas (knee) will continue his progression in Fort Myers for the next couple weeks before getting into extended spring training games, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Per Cotillo, sliding is the next big hurdle for Casas, who has already been cleared to run. Casas has been working on his rehab in Florida all offseason and is noticeably carrying less weight this spring.
-
Nate Lowe CIN 1B
Reds' Nathaniel Lowe: Added to Cincinnati's roster
2d agoThe Reds selected Lowe's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
The move corresponds with the Reds placing right-hander Hunter Greene (elbow) on the 60-day injured list. Lowe signed a minor-league contract with Cincinnati in mid-February and made a strong case for a spot on the Opening Day roster across his 17 Cactus League games, when he slashed .268/.362/.585 with three home runs and eight RBI in 47 plate appearances. Lowe gives the Reds another left-handed bat and depth at first base behind Sal Stewart.
-
Sal Stewart CIN 1B
Reds' Sal Stewart: Projected for cleanup spot
2d agoStewart is projected by MLB.com to start at first base and bat cleanup against lefty Garrett Crochet and the Red Sox on Opening Day.
The 22-year-old has put together an impressive spring with a 1.066 OPS, three homers and four steals across 54 Cactus League plate appearances. With that, Stewart has been moving up manager Terry Francona's batting order, seeing time in the cleanup spot against both lefties and righties over the final week of exhibition play. It remains to be seen if it will stick, as Stewart's strikeout rate shot up 10 percentage points in his first cup of coffee in the majors last season, but the Reds clearly think he's ready to make a difference as a slugging first baseman in the heart of the lineup.
-
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. TOR 1B
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Launches first spring homer
2d agoGuerrero went 2-for-2 with a walk, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays.
The first-inning homer off Nick Martinez was Guerrero's first in eight Grapefruit League games, although he also slugged two in five contests for the Dominican Republic during the WBC. Guerrero is batting .444 (8-for-18) with a 4:1 BB:K for the Jays this spring, and the 27-year-old looks locked in for the start of the regular season.
-
Ha-seong Kim ATL 2B
-
Brett Wisely ATL 2B
Braves' Brett Wisely: Jettisoned from 40-man roster
20m agoAtlanta designated Wisely for assignment Wednesday.
Wisely bounced around to multiple organizations this offseason and was ultimately unable to capture a spot on Atlanta's Opening Day roster. The utility player's versatility could pique the interest of clubs via waivers.
-
Michael Massey KC 2B
Royals' Michael Massey: Sent to IL with strained calf
26m agoThe Royals placed Massey (calf) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Massey has been ramping things back up and, because the IL move is backdated to Sunday, will be eligible for activation April 1. It's unclear whether he'll be ready to return from his calf strain by that time, but his absence is projected to be brief.
-
Tommy Edman LAD 2B
Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Move to IL made official
1h agoThe Dodgers placed Edman (ankle) on the 10-day injured list Monday.
The IL move for Edman was a formality, as he's still working his way back from right ankle surgery and didn't play in any Cactus League contests. The Dodgers are aiming for Edman to be ready for his season debut around late May. Per MLB.com, Edman has been able to take batting practice and recently progressed to straight-line running.
-
Ketel Marte ARI 2B
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Experiences lower-leg soreness
5h agoMarte was scratched from Tuesday's exhibition game due to lower-leg soreness, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.
This provides a bit more context about the issue bothering Marte, which was originally classified as undisclosed. Regardless, the issue is minor, and there is no concern that Marte will miss Opening Day.
-
Adam Frazier LAA 2B
Angels' Adam Frazier: Contract selected
14h agoThe Angels selected Frazier's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.
The 34-year-old emerged as the frontrunner to begin the season as the Angels' primary second baseman once the club sent Christian Moore and Kyren Paris to the minors last week, and Frazier's addition to the active roster makes it even more likely that will be the case. He made a strong case for himself to make the big-league squad, slashing .281/.452/.375 with six RBI and four runs scored over 18 games during spring training. He'll most likely work in a platoon at the keystone with Oswald Peraza -- a scenario that will still allow the lefty-hitting Frazier to start more often than not.
-
Taylor Walls TB 3B
Rays' Taylor Walls: Goes on 10-day IL
4h agoThe Rays placed Walls on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right oblique strain.
Walls is slated to miss at least the first couple weeks of the season due to an oblique strain that first popped up in late February. Carson Williams will handle shortstop for the Rays while Walls is out and could keep the job if he gets off to a hot start.
-
Jeimer Candelario LAA 3B
Angels' Jeimer Candelario: Selected to active roster
14h agoThe Angels selected Candelario's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.
Candelario earned a spot on the Angels' Opening Day roster after slashing .245/.339/.612 with four homers, 10 RBI and eight runs scored over 56 plate appearances in the Cactus League. He will provide infield depth for the big club to begin the season while Vaughn Grissom (wrist) is on the injured list.
-
Anthony Rendon LAA 3B
Angels' Anthony Rendon: Placed on 60-day IL
14h agoThe Angels placed Rendon (hip) on the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
After reaching an agreement over the winter with the Angels to restructure the final year of the seven-year, $245 million contract he signed in December 2019, Rendon won't join the Angels for 2026 and will miss a second straight season after undergoing hip surgery prior to the 2025 campaign. However, he will remain on the team's official roster and presumably spend the entire season on the 60-day IL. Once he becomes a free agent following the season, Rendon is expected to formally retire from professional baseball.
-
Bryan Ramos BAL 3B
Orioles' Bryan Ramos: DFA'd by O's
16h agoThe Orioles designated Ramos for assignment Tuesday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Ramos slashed .316/.381/.474 with a homer, three RBI and four runs scored across 42 plate appearances in the Grapefruit League, but his attempt at making Baltimore's Opening Day roster was still unsuccessful. The 24-year-old doesn't have minor-league options remaining, so he'll also have to forfeit his place on the 40-man roster.
-
Andruw Monasterio BOS 3B
Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Will platoon with Mayer
19h agoMonasterio will be part of a three-player platoon at second base early in the regular season, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Boston manager Alex Cora discussed his plans for second base, where Marcelo Mayer will start against right-handers. Against lefties, it will be either Monasterio or Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Monasterio was better than Kiner-Falefa against left-handers in 2025, but Cora indicated he would "mix-and-match" between the two. Fantasy managers will get an early look at how Cora handles the situation, as Boston is scheduled to face left-handers in its first two games of the regular season.
-
Tyler Freeman COL 3B
Rockies' Tyler Freeman: Goes on IL with back inflammation
1d agoThe Rockies placed Freeman on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with lower-back inflammation, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports.
Freeman didn't make his Cactus League debut until March 5 due to back problems and he encountered a setback last week. While he does not appear to have any structural damage in his back, the fact that the injury has lingered for so long could point to longer than a minimum stay on the IL. Once healthy, Freeman projects for a super-utility role in Colorado.
-
Trey Sweeney DET SS
Tigers' Trey Sweeney: Starting season on IL
19m agoThe Tigers placed Sweeney (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to March 22.
The 25-year-old suffered the right shoulder strain at the start of camp and was unable to play in any games during spring training. Sweeney will require a rehab assignment to get some games in before returning from the injured list. Even once healthy, he could be ticketed for the minors with top prospect Kevin McGonigle beginning the year as Detroit's primary shortstop.
-
Zach Dezenzo HOU SS
Astros' Zach Dezenzo: Sent to IL with elbow sprain
31m agoThe Astros placed Dezenzo (elbow) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Dezenzo hurt his elbow while playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. There's no timetable for his return, but the fact that he was diagnosed with a sprain suggests it could be longer than a minimum absence.
-
Maximo Acosta MIA SS
Marlins' Maximo Acosta: Sidelined with oblique strain
44m agoThe Marlins placed Acosta (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Acosta will be shelved for at least the first couple weeks of the season with a left oblique strain. He could be assigned to Triple-A Jacksonville rather than the major-league club once he's healthy and completes a rehab assignment.
-
Kevin McGonigle DET SS
Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Officially added to roster
1h agoThe Tigers selected McGonigle's contract from Double-A Erie on Wednesday.
The transaction was merely a formality after the Tigers confirmed Tuesday that the 21-year-old star prospect would be included on the Opening Day roster. McGonigle earned the right to bypass the Triple-A level and make his MLB debut Thursday in San Diego after slashing .250/.411/.477 with two home runs and two stolen bases over 56 plate appearances in spring training. He's expected to handle an everyday role while splitting time between third base and shortstop, and he could occupy a prominent spot in the batting order right away.
-
Anthony Volpe NYY SS
Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Officially lands on injured list
3h agoThe Yankees placed Volpe (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Volpe is still working his way back from surgery last October to repair the labrum in his left shoulder. He's expected to be ready for a rehab assignment around the second week of April and could make his season debut around May 1. Jose Caballero will cover shortstop for the Yankees while Volpe is on the mend.
-
Angel Martinez CLE SS
Guardians' Angel Martinez: Earns praise from decision-maker
3h agoCleveland president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti on Tuesday lauded the work Martinez put in during the offseason to become a better hitter, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. "He worked really hard on his left-handed swing over the course of the winter, and we saw that play dividends in spring training," Antonetti said.
Pending any additional moves the team may make to finalize its Opening Day roster, Martinez appears to gave beaten out Stuart Fairchild for the final outfield spot. The switch-hitting Martinez closed the preseason slashing .356/.396/.800 with six doubles, one triple, four home runs, six RBI, three steals and 10 runs scored over 18 contests. Along with his ability to hit from both sides of the plate, Martinez brings defensive versatility and could play second base if needed. "He could be a really valuable member of our team and help us find ways to win games," Antonetti added.
-
Drew Waters KC CF
Royals' Drew Waters: Booted from 40-man roster
34m agoThe Royals designated Waters for assignment Wednesday.
Waters failed to crack the Opening Day roster and doesn't have minor-league options remaining, so he's headed to waivers. The 27-year-old outfielder sports a career .234/.300/.369 batting line and 31.1 percent strikeout rate over parts of four major-league seasons.
-
Kyle Stowers MIA RF
Marlins' Kyle Stowers: Moves to IL
1h agoThe Marlins placed Stowers (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Stowers was diagnosed Sunday with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain and is expected to need 3-to-4 weeks to make a full recovery. With Stowers opening the season on the shelf, the Marlins should have regular reps available in the corner outfield for Griffin Conine and Owen Caissie, and the right-handed-hitting Heriberto Hernandez could see more opportunities against righties after he previously appeared to be in line for a short-side platoon role.
-
Randal Grichuk NYY LF
Yankees' Randal Grichuk: Added to big-league roster
3h agoThe Yankees selected Grichuk's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
Grichuk didn't do much this spring as a non-roster invitee, but it had always been expected that he would head north with the big club. He will mostly operate in a reserve role but will see some starts against left-handed pitching.
-
Stuart Fairchild CLE LF
Guardians' Stuart Fairchild: Bound for Triple-A
4h agoFairchild is expected to open the regular season at Triple-A Columbus, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Fairchild, who was in camp as a non-roster invitee, appears to have lost out on his bid for a roster spot to Angel Martinez, who raked (1.196 OPS) this spring. The 30-year-old Fairchild has an upward mobility clause in his contract; if another team wants to add him to their 26-man or 40-man roster, the Guardians would have to decide whether they would match the proposition for part ways. Fairchild can play all three outfield spots and could be of value to another club.
-
Lourdes Gurriel ARI LF
Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Will DH in minor-league games
5h agoArizona manager Torey Lovullo said Tuesday that Gurriel (knee) will serve as a designated hitter in the minor-league games, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.
The manager added that Gurriel is close to returning to play defense. He's participated in defensive drills and shagging but not yet defended a position in game action.
-
Zac Veen COL RF
Rockies' Zac Veen: Sitting with bruised knee
13h agoVeen has been sidelined since March 9 due to a right knee contusion.
Veen injured himself sliding while trying to make a catch in the outfield. He had been slashing .250/.375/.550 with a pair of homers and four RBI through 24 plate appearances in the Cactus League, but his extended absence could be a sign that he won't be available for Opening Day.
-
Hurston Waldrep ATL SP
Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Lands on IL
20m agoAtlanta placed Waldrep (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Waldrep isn't expected to be available to make his season debut until June or July after he underwent an arthroscopic procedure Feb. 23 to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. Atlanta could shift him to the 60-day IL at some point in the coming weeks when the team needs to free up another spot on the 40-man roster.
-
A.J. Smith-Shawver ATL SP
Braves' AJ Smith-Shawver: Opens season on 15-day IL
23m agoAtlanta placed Smith-Shawver (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Smith-Shawver is still on the mend from the Tommy John surgery he underwent June 9 of last year and isn't expected to be ready to pitch for Atlanta until late in the 2026 season, if at all. Atlanta will eventually move him to the 60-day IL when it needs to open up another spot on the 40-man roster.
-
Sawyer Gipson-Long DET SP
Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Lands on injured list
26m agoThe Tigers placed Gipson-Long (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to March 22.
The right-hander sustained the injury during the offseason and was working through his rehab program during spring training. Gipson-Long was throwing bullpen sessions late in camp and will likely need a rehab assignment before being cleared for his season debut with Detroit.
-
Jose Franco CIN SP
Reds' Jose Franco: Back with big club
38m agoThe Reds recalled Franco from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
Franco was cut from big-league camp in early March, but he's now back to absorb the roster spot of the injured Caleb Ferguson (oblique). When/if the lefty gets into a game, it will be his major-league debut.
-
Spencer Strider ATL SP
Braves' Spencer Strider: Moved to IL
40m agoAtlanta placed Strider (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Manager Walt Weiss had previously confirmed Monday that Strider would be headed to the IL after the right-hander strained his left oblique after making a start in a minor-league spring game against the Red Sox last week. Though Weiss is optimistic that Atlanta got out in front of Strider's injury before it worsened, the 27-year-old isn't a lock to be activated from the IL when first eligible April 6. Jose Suarez is the leading candidate to enter the rotation as Atlanta's new No. 5 starter while Strider is on the mend.
-
Ryan Weathers NYY SP
Yankees' Ryan Weathers: Ends spring on positive note
1h agoWeathers completed five innings in Tuesday's exhibition game against the Cubs, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters.
Weathers entered as a reliever in the third inning but got in a healthy workload of five frames spanning 80 pitches (57 strikes). He held Chicago to just one run on a Miguel Amaya solo homer. Weathers had a bumpy spring and finished the exhibition slate with an 8.83 ERA and 1.79 WHIP across 17.1 innings, but he did register an impressive 21:4 K:BB. The left-hander has been tabbed to be part of New York's season-opening rotation and is tentatively slated to make his first start Monday in Seattle.
-
Brandon Walter HOU RP
-
Reiver Sanmartin SF RP
Giants' Reiver Sanmartin: Goes on 60-day injured list
13m agoThe Giants placed Sanmartin (hip) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
The southpaw will be sidelined until June after suffering a right hip flexor strain earlier this month. Once healthy, Sanmartin is not a given to return to the active roster with the big club.
-
Daysbel Hernandez ATL RP
Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Shelved with shoulder cyst
16m agoAtlanta placed Hernandez on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a right shoulder sebaceous cyst.
Hernandez didn't pitch after Sept. 6 last season due to right shoulder inflammation, and the issue seems to have lingered into 2026. He didn't make any appearances in spring training, though he was seen throwing a live batting practice session at camp last week. Assuming he hasn't experienced any setbacks since he resumed facing hitters, Hernandez could be cleared to head out on a rehab assignment once the minor-league season gets underway this weekend.
-
Danny Young ATL RP
Braves' Danny Young: Moves to IL
21m agoAtlanta placed Young (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Young is unlikely to be ready to make his season debut for Atlanta until later this summer while he works his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent back in May. The southpaw reliever could be shifted to the 60-day IL at some point when Atlanta needs to open up another spot on the 40-man roster.
-
Shohei Ohtani LAD DH
Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Posts 11 punchouts in final tune-up
26m agoOhtani completed four innings in an exhibition start against the Angels on Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters. He also went 1-for-2 as a hitter.
Ohtani looked dominant for most of the outing, racking up 17 whiffs among his 86 pitches and getting 11 of his 12 outs via strikeout. The only negative about his punchout spree is that it drove up his pitch count -- per Jack Harris of the California Post, the Dodgers intended the two-way star to get into the sixth inning, but he ended up completing only four frames. Ohtani may have run out of steam a bit in the fifth, as he gave up three straight hits -- all of which were singles -- before being lifted, and all three runners eventually came around to score. Regardless, Ohtani showcased his overpowering arsenal in the outing, and it's a great sign for his readiness as a pitcher for the regular season that he was able to approach 90 pitches. He's slated to make his first start Tuesday at home against the Guardians.
-
Andrew McCutchen TEX DH
Rangers' Andrew McCutchen: Secures roster spot
1d agoThe Rangers are selecting McCutchen for their major-league roster, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
McCutchen was a late addition to spring training, signing with Texas as a non-roster invitee earlier this month. He slashed .444/.583/.778/1.361 in 24 plate appearances in Arizona. McCutchen is expected to serve primarily as a designated hitter against left-handers.
-
Eloy Jimenez TOR DH
Blue Jays' Eloy Jimenez: Unable to crack Opening Day roster
2d agoThe Blue Jays reassigned Jimenez to minor-league camp Monday.
Though his longshot bid to win a spot on Toronto's Opening Day roster fell short, Jimenez was able to make a positive impression this spring with an .857 OPS over 45 plate appearances in the Grapefruit League. The 29-year-old offers limited utility on defense, so any opportunity he might have to re-emerge in the big leagues will hinge on him tearing up International League pitching at Triple-A Buffalo over an extended period. Jimenez last appeared in the majors in 2024, when he slashed .238/.289/.336 with six home runs over 349 plate appearances between stops with the White Sox and Orioles.
-
Jorge Soler LAA DH
Angels' Jorge Soler: Belts two long balls in spring game
2d agoSoler went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four total RBI in an exhibition loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.
