Draft Scouting Report
Rylie Mills is a sturdy, power-based defensive lineman built more like a 5-technique than a traditional 3-tech. Though he lacks elite length, he effectively uses a straight-arm technique to keep blockers off him, setting up counters like a swim or push-pull. His bull rush is a legitimate weapon, and he plays with notable power at the point of attack.
His height can lead to high pad level, making him susceptible to being washed down the line, but his core strength and balance help him recover. While not an elite block-shedder, he plays with effort, frequently chasing plays from the backside and making impact stops near the line.
As a pass rusher, Mills is further along in his development, leaning on his strength and bull rush as his foundation. His move set isn’t highly refined, and his burst is adequate but not a defining trait. An older but NFL-ready power player, he fits best in a role where he can attack upfield and collapse pockets with strength.
