Draft Scouting Report
Jay Higgins has a lot of the red flags evaluators look for when projecting if college production will translate to the NFL. He's a below-average athlete with below-average size that played in a scheme that protected his weaknesses. That being said, he played elite-level football in the middle of the Hawkeyes defense the past two seasons. He may not be an All-Pro anytime soon, but he won't miss many assignments.
- Career: Two-time first-team All-Big Ten (2023, 2024), Big Ten Linebacker of the Year (2024) and Unanimous All-American (2024)
- 2023-24: First player in school history to record 100-plus tackles in back-to-back seasons
- Efficient mover in space. Always on balance and able to react
- Plays with great leverage. Sinks low into contact
- Smooth hips to turn an run the seam
- Great instincts and assignment sure
- Below-average range by NFL standards. Not the guy to move into space
- Small frame for a middle linebacker
- Not a stack/shed backer between the tackles
- Lacks explosion to finish plays
- 40-yard dash: 4.82 seconds
- Vertical jump: 33 inches
- 20-yard shuttle run: 4.35 seconds
- Broad jump: 9 feet, 2 inches
- 3-cone drill: 7.01 seconds
