Draft Scouting Report

Rating: 82.30 (Starter)
Pro Comparison: Tariq Woolen
Summary

Darien Porter is a converted wide receiver who's only been playing cornerback the past three years. He is one of the most impressive athletes at the corner position you'll ever see. Because of that, his potential as a man corner is sky high. It's his work in zone and run support that leaves a good deal to be desired, as he'll too often look like a wide receiver trying to play corner then.

About
  • High school: Two-time 400-meter state champion (his time of 46.99 seconds in 2019 was first sub-47.00 400 in Iowa prep history)
  • 2024: Three interceptions despite only being targeted 17 times (five receptions for 70 yards aganst) in his first season as a starter
Strengths
  • Identifies and attacks the ball in the air like a former wide receiver (because he is one)
  • Speed and burst is as good as it gets. Can make up ground on anyone
  • Big improvement as the 2024 season wore on. Saw things develop faster
  • Can throttle down and drive with ease
Weaknesses
  • Terrible tackler. Not comfortable with that part of defense yet. Angles are a problem
  • Barely played. 694 career snaps on defense
  • Leggy in space. See him get top heavy and struggle to change directions
  • Lost too often in what his role should be
Combine Data
  • 40-yard dash: 4.30 seconds
  • Vertical jump: 36.5 inches
  • 20-yard shuttle run: 4.04 seconds
  • Broad jump: 10 feet, 11 inches
  • 3-cone drill: 6.71 seconds

Top Darien Porter News

  • Raiders' Darien Porter: Lands in Las Vegas

The Raiders selected Porter in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 68th overall.

A tall, rangy corner with elite speed, Porter is a very interesting prospect. Porter was primarily a special-teams player and wide receiver who transitioned to corner as a senior. As a result, he's inexperienced relative to his peers, but the tools are intriguing. He ran a 4.3 flat in the 40 at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds. Porter may take some lumps as he hones his coverage skills, but he can be an impact special-teamer from the jump (five combined punt- and field-goal blocks at Iowa State). If he develops, Porter could be a steal for the Raiders in the third round.
