Thibodeaux's first practice since being designated to return from injured reserve was a limited session, which suggests he could be nearing a return to the field. Head coach Brian Daboll told reporters Wednesday that he's "optimistic" Thibodeaux will play in the Giants' Week 12 matchup against the Buccaneers, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. However, the 2022 first-round pick from Oregon must still be activated to the Giants' active roster in order to suit up Sunday.

The Giants will place Thibodeaux (wrist) on injured reserve Saturday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
This move was not unexpected, as Thibodeaux's wrist injury -- a breaking of the scaphoid bone -- has a return timeline of 4-to-6 weeks. The third-year pass rusher will need to miss at least New York's next four games, so his earliest possible return date will be Nov. 10 for a contest against Carolina. Azeez Ojulari will likely take over in a pass-rushing starting role for as long as Thibodeaux remains sidelined.

Thibodeaux seems likely to miss Sunday's game against the Bengals, if not longer, as he works his way back from the wrist procedure. The standout pass rusher has played above 70 percent of defensive snaps in all five of New York's games, and piling up 12 tackles (eight solo) and two sacks. Patrick Johnson and Azeez Ojulari will be candidates to handle increased roles at outside linebacker while Thibodeaux is on the mend.
