Draft Scouting Report
Michael Taaffe is a high-energy safety who excels when playing aggressively near the line of scrimmage. He shows an impressive ability to read the quarterback’s eyes and navigate through traffic to stop the run. While he is a reliable tackler in a straight line, he is most effective in the box or closing on quick passes rather than dropping into deep coverage.
- 2025: 70 tackles, 2 INT (10 starts)
- 2025: 88.1 PFF grade (14th among 914 safeties)
- Explosive downhill burst when attacking screens and quick passes.
- Skilled at navigating through traffic to fill interior run gaps.
- Effective at reading the quarterback to break on the ball.
- Struggles when forced to turn and run downfield.
- Limited lateral agility makes tackling shifty runners difficult.
- Efficiency drops when forced to make plays toward the perimeter.
- 40-yard dash: 4.50 seconds

Dolphins' Michael Taaffe: Packs bags for Miami
The Dolphins selected Taaffe in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 158th overall.
Taaffe, out of Texas, started all 26 games over his final two collegiate seasons and generated 148 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, 15 pass breakups and four interceptions. He's an extremely aggressive safety who is comfortable as a run stopper and in coverage. His size is a serious question mark, however, as he measured in at 6-foot, 190 pounds while having some of the smallest arms for a safety in the draft. Taaffe's skills may not be enough to overcome his physical limitations, but there should be a clear path to a role on special teams.
