Draft Scouting Report
Barrett Carter is an off-ball linebacker with modern size and a sleek, well-built frame. He’s an athletic player with impressive range and the speed to make plays from sideline to sideline.
While he reads his keys quickly and often reacts first to the football, his inability to consistently defeat blockers en route to the ball-carrier limits his effectiveness. His handwork and power need improvement, as he can get stuck on blockers when focused too much on his target.
Carter excels against the run, showing good football IQ and the ability to flow downhill and fill gaps with authority. His tackling isn’t always reliable, especially considering his experience, though it’s not a major issue.
In coverage, Carter is more effective in man situations but can get lost in zone. While he wasn’t used much in pure coverage roles in college, he has the potential to adapt to those duties in the NFL.
His speed and intelligence make him a capable blitzer with good range to the ball. Though not overly spectacular, Carter’s skill set, with improvements in block shedding, could make him a solid off-ball linebacker at the next level.
