BYU will be in front of its home crowd on Saturday and a look at the spread shows the Cougars might need all the support they can get from their fans. Kansas State is coming to town for a Big 12 battle at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Both teams come into the game undefeated.
BYU will head into Saturday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling. Everything went BYU's way against Wyoming as BYU made off with a 34-14 victory. A big part of the win was the Cougars' ability to finish drives: they scored a touchdown on all four of their trips to the red zone.
Jake Retzlaff threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for BYU, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Keelan Marion, who ran a kickoff back 100 yards for a score in the third quarter. Will Ferrin helped out too, most notably when he nailed a field goal from 49 yards out in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, Kansas State was not the first on the board last Friday, but the Wildcats got there more often, blowing past Arizona 31-7. Kansas State pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third quarter.
Quarterback Avery Johnson rushed for 110 yards, and also threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in total yards. Another player making a difference was DJ Giddens, who rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown.
Both teams pleased fans and bettors in their last games by winning and covering the spread. Looking ahead, Kansas State is the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see the Wildcats win by seven points. This will be BYU's first time playing as the underdogs at home this season.
