Virginia Tech announced Tuesday evening that the school's home locker room would be named "The Team United Locker Room" in honor of legendary coach Frank Beamer.
The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors approved the motion to rename the locker room and the school will hold a formal dedication ceremony later once new signage is made.
“The heart and soul of Virginia Tech football resides within the young men who will use this locker room,” Beamer said in a release.
“The locker room is a place where lifelong friendships form and teams grow stronger together. While this space will always belong to our student-athletes and Hokie Nation, if my name helps remind our student-athletes to give that extra effort on the field, study a little longer or do a good turn for a fellow Hokie, then I’m all for it."
Beamer coached Virginia Tech for 29 years, compiling a 238-121-2 record with 23 bowl appearances (11-12 bowl record). Prior to Beamer taking the coaching job in 1987, the Hokies had made five bowl appearances in the school's football history -- dating back to 1902.
