Matt Campbell will be back at Toledo in 2015 after signing a contract extension with the school that runs through 2020.
Campbell has a 25-13 record as head coach since taking over for Tim Beckman after the 2011 regular season. Under Campbell, the Rockets have had a winning season every year and earned a share of the MAC West Division title in 2014.
"Matt Campbell is a proven winner and one of the finest head coaches in all of college football," Toledo athletic director Mike O’Brien said Monday. "Just as importantly, Matt is a great mentor to the young men in our football program. He is dedicated to ensuring that our student-athletes develop on the football field, in the classroom and in life. We are pleased to make this commitment to Matt and look forward to many more years with him as our head football coach."
Campbell, 35, was the youngest head coach in FBS at the time of his promotion. He was reportedly a name worth considering for the open job at Pittsburgh, among other places. Keeping Campbell around is great news for this Rockets, especially since this team could be back in the MAC title hunt again in 2015.
Toledo will play in the GoDaddy Bowl against Arkansas State on Jan. 4 in Birmingham. The Rockets are currently 3.5-point favorites.
