Update: Wisconsin defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox has reached an agreement to become Cal's next coach, according to ESPN"s Brett McMurphy. The report states Wilcox will receive a five-year deal, but the terms beyond that weren't disclosed.

California is reportedly close to announcing its replacement for Sonny Dykes after abruptly firing the four-year Golden Bears coach over the weekend. According to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman and ESPN's Brett McMurphy, moves are being made to make Wisconsin defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox the next coach at Cal.

According to reports, Dykes' dismissal came as a result of slumping season ticket sales and mediocre performance on the field. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, season ticket renewals for 2017 have dropped "more than 30 percent from the same time last year."

"We believe that a coaching change will reinvigorate Cal football, stimulate lagging ticket sales and renewals and energize our alumni, donor and fan base," Cal athletic director Mike Williams said, via the Chronicle, in an email to donors Sunday night.

Whether Wilcox, a native of Oregon, will be able to rejuvenate the fan base is yet to be seen. He has spent most of this decade as a top assistant for major programs with stops at Tennessee, Washington and Southern California. Most recently, he served as defensive coordinator under Paul Chryst at Wisconsin.

The Badgers had one of the top defensives in the country this season and Wilcox's talent combined with his familiarity in the Pac-12 should make for an easy sell to fans who saw too many Cal games end in losses because of the defense.
