Before spring football recedes too far into the rearview mirror, it's worth making a note of one of the cooler uniform tweaks seen this season was the helmet worn by UAB during the Blazers' spring game on Saturday. The helmet was designed to recall the events and victims of a tornado that ripped through Tuscaloosa and other parts of Alabama on April 27, 2011.

From the Blazers' Twitter feed:

In addition to the helmets (and the game being played on the tornado's two-year anniversary), the Blazers' White and Green teams were guest-coached by Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox -- a former UAB football player -- and popular ABC 33/40 meteorologist James Spann.
