Unbeaten teams will square off in the 2023 Red River Showdown on Saturday when the No. 3 Texas Longhorns (5-0) face the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners (5-0). Texas has already knocked off one top-15 team this season, taking down then-No. 3 Alabama in a 34-24 final in early September. The Longhorns have added blowout wins over Wyoming, Baylor and then-No. 24 Kansas since that game. Oklahoma has won all five of its games by at least two touchdowns, including last week's 50-20 victory over Iowa State.

Kickoff is set for noon ET on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Longhorns are favored by 5.5 points in the latest Texas vs. Oklahoma odds, while the over/under is set at 60.5 points, per SportsLine consensus. Why Texas can cover

Oklahoma won four straight meetings between these teams prior to last season, when Texas dominated in a 49-0 shutout that marked its biggest win in the series' history. Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns in that game, and he has already racked up 1,358 yards with 10 touchdowns this season. He has completed nearly two-thirds of his passes and has run for five more scores, helping Texas win all five of its games by double digits.

Sophomore running back Jonathon Brooks rushed for 218 yards and two touchdowns in the Longhorns' 40-14 win over Kansas last week, going over 100 rushing yards for the third straight game. Their balanced offense has scored at least 31 points in all five of their wins this season, holding opponents to 14 points or less in four of those outings. Oklahoma has not faced a ranked team this season, and the Longhorns are confident following their blowout win last season. See which team to pick at SportsLine

Why Oklahoma can cover

Oklahoma is enjoying a nice bounce back season in year two under head coach Brent Venables. Like Texas, the Sooners have been dominant on both sides of the ball in the early season. They haven't faced an opponent on the Longhorns' level, but they have taken care of business in every game they've played. Oklahoma is beating its opponents by an average score of 47.4-10.8 and is 5-0 against the spread this season.

The Sooners' turnaround has been spearheaded by a dominant defense and the play of senior quarterback Dillon Gabriel. The former UCF transfer enters the 2023 Red River Showdown completing 75.2% of his pass attempts for 1,593 yards, 15 touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also rushed for 95 yards and four scores on the ground. See which team to back at SportsLine.
