The annual in-state rivalry between NC State and North Carolina got a healthy dose of smack talk in 2011, thanks to some verbal jabs from Tar Heels interim coach Everett Withers and the response from Tom O'Brien.

But the Wolfpack were the only team to respond to the week of radio chatter performance on Saturday, slowing down North Carolina running back Giovani Bernard and bottling up backup quarterback Braden Hanson after Bryn Renner left the game with concussion-like symptoms.

The 13-0 shutout in Raleigh was the fifth straight victory for NC State in the rivalry, something that Wolfpack fans take a lot of pride in -- particularly around the state of North Carolina.

The billboard above can be found around Raleigh and major highway entrances to the state of North Carolina.  There is also an accompanying video promotion that features key Wolfpack players across different regions in the state.

At the Eye On College Football we have discussed whether defeats on the field result in the ownership of states -- rules that would be similar to the board game Risk.  However, that game gets very scary when considering the speed with which Alabama could consume most of the Southeast.

Wake Forest could have more of an issue with this campaign, after all the Deacons did defeat the Wolfpack in two of their last three meetings.  Unfortunately with 11 starters to replace, including four NFL Draft picks, there is less room for smack talk heading into 2012.
