Scandal alert! It turns out that Oregon quarterback, like a lot of 21-year olds (and 31-year olds, and 41-year olds, etc) has the need for speed.

The Heisman hopeful was busted for speeding during Oregon's bye week. According to The Oregonian, Mariota was pulled over early on the morning of Nov. 12 after doing 80 miles per hour in a zone with a 55-mph limit.

"Mr. Mariota was polite and respectful, he was professional and took the citation appropriately and acted appropriately," state police Lt. Josh Brooks said. "Everybody gets tickets and 80 in a 55 is a tad fast. We send you on your way, it's just that."

Mariota could face a $260 fine and will have to appear in Lane County Circuit Court on Dec. 12. Oregon will have finished its regular season, and the Pac-12 Championship game is scheduled to be played on Dec. 5, so his court appearance won't interfere with Oregon's schedule.

He will have to deal with jokes about his up-tempo driving, though. Those will be unavoidable.

Seriously, though, slow down, Marcus.
