Florida's Saturday home game vs. Vanderbilt already had a little more intrigue than your typical Florida home game vs. Vanderbilt; the Commodores are, surprisingly, the only team that can prevent the Gators from winning the SEC East, and Florida designated the game its own homecoming.

So why not break out a little surprise uniform wrinkle? Florida came out of the locker room in brand new alternate white helmets, the first time they've worn white lids since losing to Alabama in the 2009 SEC Championship Game. Via the Gators' official Twitter account:

Another look from pregame:

Unlike the 2009 lids, these feature the script "Gators" on one side and the "F" on the other; the previous versions included the "F" on both sides.

The Gators will hope for better luck in the white helmets than in that 2009 game -- the Tide thumped Florida on their way to the BCS title, leading then-coach Urban Meyer to mothball the white helmets for the duration of his tenure. But as nice a change-of-pace as they are, maybe this is one more reason for Gators fans to be happy with Jim McElwain's hire.
