After throwing only 74 passes in two seasons, Jacoby Brissett is leaving Florida. (US Presswire) |
Florida backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett will transfer and has been granted a release from his scholarship. Coach Will Muschamp confirmed the news on Sunday.
Brissett came to Florida as heralded member of the 2011 recruiting class along with fellow quarterback Jeff Driskel, but Driskel has gotten most of the work. Driskel won a quarterback competition with Brissett before the 2012 season and was named Florida's starter.
In his two seasons with the Gators, Brissett completed 41 of 74 passes for 455 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. He started three games.
As for where Brissett will wind up, there is no clearcut front-runner. He is reportedly considering West Virginia, Louisville, Arkansas, Duke and North Carolina State.
Brissett isn't the only player leaving Gainesville. Muschamp also announced running back/safety Chris Johnson will be transferring, as well. Another member of Florida's 2011 class, Johnson only played in one game this season as a running back, rushing for 35 yards on five carries against Kentucky. He also had 11 tackles on defense.
