Virginia Tech's athletics department announced on Wednesday that former football player Steve Johnson had donated $1,000,025 to the school, with the majority of those funds going towards the Hokies' indoor practice facility. But why not just a cool million? Why the extra $25?
Well, it's because of a football he lost ... way back in 1986.
Johnson, who was at Tech from 1983-87, played for the team in the 1986 Peach Bowl. And it was there that he scored a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of Tech's 25-24 win over NC State before tossing the football into the stands, ultimately losing it. Here's the video:

"And the extra $25 in my gift is for Lester Karlin [former long-time VT equipment manager and currently a part-time member of the athletics department] who has hounded me for the cost of that football since I threw into the stands in the 1986 Peach Bowl," Johnson said.
Nice of him to pay that back, though it has been three decades. How much would those $25 amount to if you use Morty Seinfeld's interest rate?

I think the million on top of that suffices.
