Musician Tom Petty died Monday, and Florida will honor the Gainesville native during its game against LSU on Saturday.
The school plans to play Petty's hit "I Won't Back Down" following the third quarter.
"Let's celebrate together what he meant to the world of music and what he meant to this community," athletic director Scott Stricklin said. "Since we are already singing 'We are the Boys,' let's go right from that into one of his great anthems and make that the way we are going to jointly celebrate Tom Petty and the Gators."
Stricklin also implied on Twitter that there would be plenty of Petty hits blasting inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium throughout the game, not just at the end of the third quarter.
There’s an excellent chance you’ll hear plenty of Tom Petty’s music in #TheSwamp Saturday, not just between 3rd & 4th quarter https://t.co/xn2zd0tiNO

Tom Petty was born in Gainesville in 1950, and worked as a groundskeeper at the University of Florida before his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame career took off.
