For the first time in two decades, the No. 4 Florida State Seminoles will bring a top-five ranking and meet an unranked Clemson Tigers team at Memorial Stadium. The programs square off in an early afternoon battle between ACC powers, with the two schools combining for 11 of the last 14 ACC titles. FSU is 3-0 this season, including a headline-grabbing win over LSU. Clemson is 2-1 overall after a road loss to Duke, though the Tigers did win the 2022 battle between these teams in Tallahassee.

Kickoff is at noon ET. Why Florida State can cover

Florida State's offense is highly prolific, but the Seminoles also have strong defensive factors to lean on in this matchup. Florida State is giving up only 22.0 points per game this season, yielding only 3.9 yards per carry to opposing offenses. Clemson has a 12.5% turnover rate that is outside the top 80 in FBS this season, and the Tigers are averaging well below seven yards per pass attempt. Florida State also has the potential to create fireworks, as evidenced by 10 tackles for loss in last week's win over Boston College

The Seminoles are on a nine-game winning streak, the longest active streak among ACC teams and a top-five streak in the country, and Florida State can score with anyone in the nation. FSU is averaging 47.3 points and 462.7 total yards per contest in 2023, with the Seminoles averaging 5.4 yards per carry on the ground and able to lean on one of the best quarterbacks in the country with Jordan Travis. He is the only player in FSU history with at least 50 passing touchdowns and 25 rushing touchdowns in his career, and Travis has at least one touchdown pass in 15 consecutive games. See which team to back here.

Why Clemson can cover

The Tigers boast a very strong defense to begin the 2023 season. Clemson is No. 7 in all of FBS in total defense, giving up 246.7 yards per game. The Tigers are also in the top 10 of FBS in passing defense (148.7 passing yards allowed per game), and opponents are completing only 52.1% of passes for 4.6 yards per pass attempt against Clemson. The Tigers also have four interceptions with only one passing touchdown allowed, and Clemson is giving up only 19.7 points per game and 98 rushing yards per contest.

On the offensive side, Clemson's numbers are off the charts, including 40.3 points per game and 489.3 total yards per contest. The Tigers are averaging 5.7 yards per carry, including 6.3 yards per attempt from starting running back Will Shipley, and Clemson is converting almost 49% of third down chances. Cade Klubnik has seven touchdown passes in the last two games, and Clemson is facing a Florida State defense that is dead-last among ACC teams in passing yards allowed (268.3 per game) and in the bottom three in total yards allowed (391.3 per game) so far in 2023. See which team to pick here.
