Florida has had field goal kicking issues for much of the season (even when healthy) and in the Citrus Bowl against Michigan, the Gators are without their starting kicker.
That makes kicking field goals difficult with a walk-on. The Gators don't have much faith in the backup, so they decided to run a fake on their first drive. It did not go well.
The shovel pass isn't a great idea when the defense is trying to get pressure up the middle to block the kick. The ball was intercepted and Michigan took the ball down for a touchdown on its ensuing possession, but the Gators did answer with a touchdown of their own to tie it late in the first quarter.
