What to Know
The Cincinnati Bearcats are 3-1 against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane since November of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success Saturday. Cincinnati and Tulsa will face off in an American Athletic battle at 3:30 p.m. ET at Nippert Stadium. The Bearcats should still be riding high after a win, while the Golden Hurricane will be looking to get back in the win column.
While not quite a landslide, the contest between Cincinnati and the Tulane Green Wave last week was still a pretty decisive one as Cincinnati wrapped it up with a 31-12 victory on the road. Cincinnati relied on the efforts of QB Desmond Ridder, who passed for three TDs and 227 yards on 27 attempts in addition to picking up 47 yards on the ground, and RB Jerome Ford, who punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to snatching one receiving TD.
Cincinnati's defense was a presence as well, as it collected two interceptions and two fumbles. The picks came courtesy of CB Coby Bryant and DL Malik Vann.
Meanwhile, it was all tied up 3-3 at halftime, but the Golden Hurricane were not quite the Navy Midshipmen's equal in the second half when they met last Friday. It was close but no cigar for Tulsa as they fell 20-17 to the Midshipmen. What made the defeat an especially bitter pill for Tulsa to swallow was that they had been favored by 11 points coming into the game. QB Davis Brin had a memorable game, but not in the way you want to be remembered: despite one touchdown, he threw one interception and fumbled the ball once with only 165 yards passing.
This next matchup looks promising for Cincinnati, who are favored by a full 22.5 points. They have been consistent moneymakers against the spread when favored (5-2), so they might be worth a quick bet.
Cincinnati is now a perfect 8-0 while the Golden Hurricane sit at 3-5. A couple numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: The Bearcats enter the contest having picked the ball off 11 times, good for fourth in the nation. Less enviably, Tulsa is stumbling into the game with the 242nd most thrown interceptions in the nation, having thrown ten on the season. Cincinnati's secondary is poised to pounce all over Tulsa's passing game.
