A group of blueblood programs made big jumps in the AP poll this week after impressive wins in Week 1 of the college football season. Miami vaulted from No. 19 to No. 12 following its 41-17 thrashing of Florida, while Notre Dame crept from No. 7 to No. 5 following its 23-13 win at Texas A&M.
Also surging was USC, which jumped from No. 23 to No. 13 following its 27-20 win over LSU on Sunday night. The Tigers fell from No. 13 to No. 18 as a result of the loss.
The top of the poll remained unchanged, with preseason No. 1 Georgia cementing its hold on the No. 1 spot following a 34-3 rout of Clemson. The Bulldogs received 57 of 62 first-place votes after earning 46 votes in the preseason poll.
But there was movement elsewhere in the top five. Oregon plummeted four spots to No. 7 following an uninspiring win over Idaho. No. 4 Alabama and No. 3 Texas each moved up a spot in correspondence with Oregon's fall.
Miami's rise highlighted a chaotic series of changes for the ACC in the poll as Florida State dropped out after an 0-2 start. Clemson plummeted 11 spots to No. 25 after its poor showing against Georgia.
