UAB honors ex-player Torrey Ward, who died in plane crash

Torrey Ward played at UAB before embarking on a coaching career that led to him being the associated coach at Illinois State when he died last April in a plane crash while returning home from the championship game of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. He was 36 years old. He had two children.

UAB honored Torrey Ward with a video during Tuesday night's win over Georgia State.

Ward played at UAB from 1997 to 2000, then played professionally before starting a coaching career that led to him joining staffs at Jacksonville State, Ole Miss and Illinois State. He was one of seven people killed in a plane crash in April while returning from the national title game in Indianapolis. Ward was 36 years old. He had two children.
