John Thompson III will not return next season to coach Georgetown, a source confirmed to CBS Sports on Thursday.

The school subsequently confirmed the news.

John Thompson III spent 13 seasons at Georgetown -- a program his father, John Thompson Jr., led to the 1984 national championship. Georgetown has missed the NCAA Tournament three of the past four seasons. The Hoyas (14-18, 5-13 Big East) finished next-to-last in the 10-team conference this season.
