The Western Illinois Leathernecks' road trip will continue as they head to Carver-Hawkeye Arena at 8:01 p.m. ET on Wednesday to face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Coming off of a loss in a game they were expected to win, the Leathernecks nows face the more daunting task of proving themselves against unfavorable odds.

It looks like WIU must have gotten on Santa's naughty list since the team didn't end up with the win they were expected to receive last week. They were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 84-78 to the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks. What made the defeat an especially bitter pill for WIU to swallow was that they had been favored by 12.5 points coming into the contest.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Iowa at home against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions last Tuesday as the squad secured a 93-62 victory. Iowa's success was spearheaded by the efforts of forward Keegan Murray, who posted a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, and forward Patrick McCaffery, who had 16 points.

WIU is now 10-3 while the Hawkeyes sit at 9-3. A pair of offensive numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Leathernecks rank 22nd in college basketball when it comes to points per game, with 81.8 on average. But Iowa is even better: they come into the game boasting the third most points per game in college basketball at 87.6. Tune in for what's sure to be a high-scoring matchup.
